Internalised Homophobia needs to stop

There is an underground evil in the gay community that is internalised homophobia, People need to get educated.

Think back to a Pride event you have visited, the overwhelming atmosphere of positivity and acceptance that connects us originating from the Stonewall riots back in 1969 and every Pride event that has ever been staged since. It brings us together... why? because we have had to fight for the right to be who we are, it didn't come on a plate.

We are also seeing a lot of gender norms being pulled apart in society, pink for girl and blue for a boy culture, names, clothing, gender has all been re looked at and we have found that for so long we have been forced to live a certain way, into 2 boxes where we know human existence is a universe of individuals.

You would think we are a solid community right? because we fight for acceptance and for people to be who they are? isn't that what we are known for?

Think again.

You have probably seen the meme "i'm Gay but i ain't Gay Gay... there's levels"

We all know there is a group of gay guys who frown at feminine/camp gay guys, and for years it has baffled me, like are we not a part of the same community?

How can we fight for acceptance if we cannot even accept other gay guys? acceptance is acceptance right?

"those camp guys give us a bad name" is something else I have heard, and I can't help thinking it sounds like these gay guys are echoing the comments of homophobic people.

Homophobic people would prefer us to blend in than stand out, and now these gay guys who are afraid of the ones that stand out because they fear it draws attention to them and would rather hide away

Even more confusing is that these interalised homophobic people are fans of drag race and drag queens, which has a pelthora of gay guys in all varieties, what makes the difference here? A wig and heels and suddently a camp/fem guy is accepted?

Camp/Fem gays were at the front of the Pride movement in 1969 with the other LGBT, the camp fem people continued to be THEMSELVES in a society that frowed upon them, and they continued to be themselves fighting for acceptance, it is these individuals who have pushed our equality forward by standing out a hell of a lot quicker than the ones who like to blend in and hide away.

When I was growing up, Julian Clary graced our TV screen and many men (including my own dad) would be furious, "they should all be shot" is something I heard often. The Julian Clary's of the world are what kept pushing the fact that gay men exist into society, why? because they refused to blend in and hide away.

The real issue here is that we should be THE most accepting group of people out there, because we know what it feels like to be different, we know that in the eyes of some it's Adam and Eve and not adam and Steve, but we appreciate that we can live in a country that it is socially accepted, the camp/fem gay guys are part of that too, they have been through the same issues, so why should they then have to jump through more hoops to be accepted by you?

I personally want to thank all of the camp/fem, outgraeous gay men that ignored the norm, that were themselves regardless of society, the constant pushing from these people are what have given all of us today the right to be who we are in the UK, please think about this when you are trying to bring down someone for "talking like a woman" or "wearing make-up"

Lastly there is NO written or unritten rule book of how a person should act or be, live their life, so why are we using this invisible made up rubbish to make others feel worthless, it's bullying.

If you cannot accept the camp/fem guys then you should NEVER visit another pride event again. If there were no camp/fem gay guys where would we be today?
